Princess Ana's pov
"No, don't even change my mind, soso. I can't have such thoughts entering my mind." I shook my head vehemently to ward away such thoughts. If he was an Alpha, my father would be allowed to serve the pack. I mean, there cannot be two Alphas in a pack. It would be a spiral of dominance and pheromones.
They would both bring out their dicks to show who is bigger!
"I am telling you the truth, Ana. You just don't believe me. I am not paranormal.. contrary to what you think!" Soso wasn't getting my point at all.
I sighed, gripping the banister with all my strength. Frankly, I didn't want to hurt Amos. Arguing with Soso only managed to take my mind away from Amos. I refuse to believe whatever my wolf is telling me about him. "My father deliberately did that."
"And you deliberately walked out of his presence." Soso imitated my sigh. "I wonder what punishment he would get out to us this time around. We may be grounded forever.."
We weren't teenagers. I was a full grown adult, but I guess my father must have skipped that part in training a child 101. "He won't ground us. We haven't done that- in like forever." My thoughts didn't even have a foundation. He may, he may not, who cares? All I cared about was the gentleman who I had disgraced earlier. Like I said, I would deal with my father later, but what about what he promised me? He told me he could make my wishes come true. I hardly have my wishes come through!
"We have to speak with Amos later on." I concluded finally, waiting a minute for my wolf's reaction. Before she could retort, Daryl was at my side.
"Princess!" She called in irritation.
I rolled my eyes. "What now Daryl? Am I not allowed to miss on the stairs?"
Daryl wasn't having any of my antics. "Princess, I know you did that earlier to stop me from…"
I knew this was the reason! I couldn't bear to hear her say another word. it would make me feel even worse. "Look, I did that to save both our asses."
"Princess!" Daryl's reprimanding reminded me of my words. Yeah, I wasn't supposed to use the word 'ass.'
"You know the Alpha doesn't take kindly to foolishness. Let's just say, I corrected myself. Let it go." I urged firmly. This was the point she had to give up
Daryl took a deep breath. Oh no. Here comes more scolding! "But princess, you shouldn't have done that. Is this how you are going to treat the royal throne when your subjects arrive? They will eat you up, no offense."
The Alpha in me, namely soso began to growl, but that was just it. She was weak because my omega genes were more dominant. "They won't eat me up. I make my own rules when I become heir and I will marry whoever I want."
Daryl quickly raised her hands in surrender and her neck slightly to the side to pacify my irritation at her insinuation. She had to know her place. "I am sorry for saying that. I shouldn't have assumed you were weak enough not to rule the pack."
I cleared my throat to hide the nervousness that had replaced my initial anger. She was right. I needed to stop getting carried away by feeble things. Nevertheless, I would like to see how Amos would grant me my wish. I was looking forward to it actually. "I don't need your services until tomorrow morning."
Daryl had a suspicious look on her face.
"And no. It's not because of those reasons." I affirmed. "It's because I need some alone time. I'll be in my room anyways. Where else would I go?" Maybe the kitchen, the throne room where I spend my days musing, the window? There weren't a lot of places to go to.
Oh, yeah and we had the pack grounds, the forest, the homes of other pack members?...
It was pathetic, really.
"Okay, princess." Daryl said, handing me the spare keys to my room. I raised an eyebrow at the level of her trust. What made her think that I won't go out of my room into the pack lands and even dare step outside the territory? I hid my smile, tucking the key safely into my gown pockets.
Knowing Daryl and who she answered to, she would never leave the spare keys in my hands. She probably had a thousand of my room doors in her care.
"Good night, Daryl." I happily greeted them while climbing the stairs all the way to my room. We had elevators, but I preferred the old fashioned way. After all, we were an old fashioned pack. A pack who never let go of its traditions. It was what made us one of the richest and strongest packs around the globe. "Don't bother me for dinner. If the Alpha asks, tell him I am taking an early nap."
And in a way that was what I planned to do. Sleep away my troubles and thoughts.
************
The hunger came harder than I thought. It woke me up from my little princess dreams of soaring like an eagle. Yeah, I better keep dreaming.
It was the most annoying thing ever.
I rose from my bed, casting a suspicious glance at the entire corners of my room. Daryl could be somewhere lurking.
"If she was, you would smell her, so stop getting paranoid, it's affecting me."
Sorry, soso. I glared at the full moon, forcing its way into my room. My eyes caught the moving hand of the clock. It was way past midnight. I had slept for so long! No wonder my stomach growled like it was going to wake the entire pack up. It growled again and this time nearly twisted my intestines into half. Ow! "Do you feel that? I think we should go raiding."
Soso lifted her heavy head to glare at me. Although she was rather curious, I suggested such a thing. "Hungry, Ana? Whatever happened to what Daryl would say?"
"Yeah," I chose to answer her anyway. "She says it's not good for my health but I need to sleep and to sleep, I need to eat."
"Daryl never hungry?" It was as if the hunger was making her say nonsense.
"I don't know, Soso. Maybe she's immune to hunger. But I can't ignore this growling. It's like a battle cry from my stomach," I mused. The idea of cake suddenly crossed my mind, and I remembered the delicious treat in the fridge. "Wait a minute. I think I have the solution. The cake?" I thought aloud. "But Daryl will scold me if she catches me eating it at this hour."
Soso, tilting her head again, asked, "Scold?"
"Yes, scold." I snapped at my wolf who was asking crazy questions. She'll be angry. But I'm so hungry, Soso," I confessed.
"Cake is good," Soso suggested. I knew my wolf would be on point eventually.
"You think so too? Okay, let's be sneaky about it. We'll go to the kitchen quietly."
Tiptoeing through the silent corridors with my wolf, we approached the kitchen, cautiously avoiding creaky floorboards. Wolves had good hearing, so I had to be extremely sneaky for this to work. As we stood in front of the fridge, a sudden worry struck me.
"What if the Alpha hears us?" I whispered.
"Quiet. Sneaky," Soso reassured. "Fear the Alpha more than Daryl."
I giggled now in the kitchen, opening the fridge with caution. The aroma of the cake first hit me. "Oh, it looks so tempting," I smiled, reaching out for it.
"Yummy," Soso agreed as I cut a small slice and tasted the forbidden treat. My enjoyment was immediately interrupted by the echoing sound of footsteps in the corridor. It was stiff, heavy and a heavy grunt followed after. I swallowed hard.
"Princess Ana, is that you?" Daryl called out. She didn't bother to enter the kitchen but her hard gaze was on me. I had a feeling she suspected I'd be hungry tonight.
Panicking, I hid the cake behind my back. "Uh, yes, Daryl. Just getting some water."
Daryl eyed me suspiciously, "Water? At this hour?"
"Couldn't sleep. Thirsty," I forced a smile. She frowned but left without further questioning, and Soso and I exchanged relieved glances.
"That was close. We need to be more careful," I whispered.
"Careful," Soso nodded.
"Who knew being sneaky could be this fun?" I snorted.
"Fun," Soso agreed again. She started to sniff.
Suddenly, a loud thud and a string of curses filled my ears. I froze, wondering if Daryl came back for me. "What was that?"
"Not Daryl for sure. Alpha?"
"No. Father would never curse…" I was about to say when a heavy hand clamped around my mouth. I tried to scream but it got stuck in my throat.
Someone… help me.
